What is the AmazonSmile Foundation?

The AmazonSmile Foundation is a 501(c)(3) private foundation created by Amazon to administer the AmazonSmile program. All donation amounts generated by the AmazonSmile program are remitted to the AmazonSmile Foundation. In turn, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates those amounts to the charitable organizations selected by our customers. Amazon pays all expenses of the AmazonSmile Foundation; they are not deducted from the donation amounts generated by purchases on AmazonSmile.

How does AmazonSmile work?

When first visiting AmazonSmile, customers are prompted to select a charitable organization from over one million eligible organizations. In order to browse or shop at AmazonSmile, customers must first select a charitable organization. For eligible purchases at AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to the customer’s selected charitable organization.

How our club receives the donations?

Each quarter, the AmazonSmile Foundation will make donations to our club by electronic funds transfer. Donations will be transferred approximately 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter.

How to sign up for AmazonSmile

How to use AmazonSmile on a web browser:

1. Visit smile.amazon.com
2. Sign in with the same account you use for Amazon.com
3. Select your charity
4. Start shopping! Remember to checkout at smile.amazon.com to generate donations for Greenville Lions club Project Vision

Tip: Add a bookmark to make it easier to shop at smile.amazon.com.

How to use AmazonSmile using the Amazon app on your mobile phone:

1. Open the Amazon Shopping app
2. Navigate to the main menu (=)
3. Tap on Settings and then select “AmazonSmile”
4. Select Greenville Lions Project Vision and then follow the on-screen instructions to turn ON AmazonSmile in the mobile app
5. Once AmazonSmile has been activated in your app, future eligible app purchases will generate a donation for our club

IMPORTANT: Just because you may have signed up for Amazon Smile and designated a charity in the past, does not mean they are signed up to receive funds. We, The Greenville Lions, are set up to receive these funds. Most charities that are listed on Amazon haven’t set up their accounts to receive funding (as was the case with our club). In cases like this, Amazon funnels unclaimed funds to charities of their choosing. If you and your contacts would like to support our club, it is greatly appreciated. If you or your contacts contribute to another organization, it may be beneficial to verify that the other organization can receive the funding. Again, this may be an opportunity to redirect you/their AmazonSmile account to our club.
