We are equally frustrated and disappointed. We wanted the show to go on as much as the fans and our community did. This is our annual fundraiser where the proceeds are 100% given back to our local community.
The bands can play in the rain, but they cannot play during a lightning storm. Per industry requirements, every lightning strike requires a mandatory 30-minute waiting period. Several times, we tried to get the show started, but then lightning would strike again. There was a confirmed lightning strike in the parking lot.
We announced several times fans could go to their cars and if the show went on, they could return. Or they could choose to leave. We loved the support of those fans who chose to stay and make the best of a poor weather evening.
While the Greenville Lions Club cannot control the weather, we wish to apologize to our loyal supporters and the community members who look forward to this event every year. We look forward to seeing you all again next year and wish to thank you all for your continued support and the support that you’ve shown us these last 50 years.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why was the concert canceled?
A: The concert was canceled due to severe weather conditions, including lightning, which posed significant safety risks for fans, performers, and staff.
Q. When was the concert canceled?
A. The official call was made at approximately 9.45 PM. After each lightning strike, there is a mandatory 30-minute wait, not including stage preparation and maintenance to ensure the safety of everyone present.
Q. Who makes the call to cancel?
A. The Lions Club, working with the bands, local law enforcement, and public safety officials made the official call - all options were sought to keep the concert on until the last minute.
Q. Why was the cancellation decision made so late?
A. All options were sought to continue the concert. We closely and constantly monitored the weather and hoped for an improvement. No one wanted to disappoint the fans.
Q. Will the concert be rescheduled?
A. Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule the bands.
Q. How can I get a refund for my ticket?
A. Tickets are sold as non-refundable. This is an extremely uncommon outcome. This is the first time in 36 years that we have had to cancel our concert due to severe weather. We understand and share in the frustration. The bands, all costs, and damages to the park are still fully incurred by the Lions Clubs.
